Discovery Poem

What do you do when you discover
you're not so special after all,
that you're just like everyone else?
Everything about you is average
and mediocre-you don't stand
out in a crowd.
How do you move on when you learn
that you're not unique, that you
aren't doing, saying, or even thinking
anything that hasn't been done, said,
or thought before you, or that isn't
even occuring right now?
Do you accept this life of mediocrity
that has been handed to you,
or do you dare strive for more, for
the world, the moon, the stars?
There's nothing extraordinary
about you at all.
What do you do now?
You sit around and hope that
one day, someone will come along
and prove you wrong.
